Adore Ethics Workshop | October 29 | 13:00 – 15:30
As science and technology advance, questions around bias, fairness, responsible innovation and societal impact become increasingly important. Addressing these questions requires looking beyond research alone. Patients, industry partners, policymakers and other stakeholders all bring valuable perspectives that can help shape responsible scientific practice.
Join us for the Adore Ethics Workshop, an interactive session exploring key ethical themes within ADORE’s innovation-driven research.
About the workshop
During this workshop, you will explore ethical questions that are essential to scientific practice, including bias and fairness, and consider their relevance to your own research and to science more broadly.
Together, we will examine ethical challenges associated with emerging ADORE research and technologies, including biomarkers, single-cell sequencing and artificial intelligence, and reflect on their potential impact on patients, society and other stakeholders.
The workshop will also explore the role of stakeholders such as patients, industry partners and policymakers in research and responsible innovation.
Rather than approaching these topics only in theory, participants will work in small groups on an interactive exercise based on real laboratory case studies. You will exchange perspectives with peers, discuss ethical dilemmas and consider different approaches to responsible scientific practice.
The session is designed to stimulate critical thinking and encourage participants to look beyond their day-to-day research activities when considering the broader implications of scientific innovation.
What you will explore
During the workshop, you will:
-
-
- • reflect on the value and role of ethics in your own research and in science more broadly;
-
- • identify ethical challenges related to emerging ADORE research and technologies;
-
- • explore themes such as bias, fairness and societal impact;
-
- • consider the role of patients, industry partners, policymakers and other stakeholders in research;
-
- • discuss real-life laboratory case studies in small groups; and
-
- • exchange perspectives on how ethical considerations can be integrated into scientific practice.
