SUMMARY:Dimensionality Reduction for Life-Scientists (Boudewijn Lelieveldt)
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Boudewijn Lelieveldt (LUMC)\nLocation: O|2 building\, Auditorium \nThe rapid advancements in single-cell and spatial -OMICS measurement technologies are currently revolutionizing life-sciences\, and high-dimensional data collections have become nearly ubiquitous across the life-sciences. However\, directly interpreting high-dimensional data poses considerable challenges: as a result\, the demand for algorithms that create low-dimensional  representations to help explore and interpret such data has grown significantly. Such algorithms reduce to dimensionality of the data to more interpretable and manageable proportions\, and their usage has become widespread in life sciences in general. \nThis seminar aims to provide a basic understanding of technologies for dimensionality reduction\, with a focus how these can be utilized in life-sciences research. The seminar consists of 3 parts: \n\nIntroduction into the concept of high-dimensional data\, and the basics of linear dimensionality reduction.\nThe algorithmic basics of two popular non-linear dimensionality techniques (tSNE\, UMAP)\, explained for entry-level life-scientists\nA critical perspective on several pros and cons inherent to non-linear dimensionality reduction (scalability\, faithful data representation\, interpretability). Moreover\, a set of recommendations of when and how to correctly use dimensionality reduction\, but also with examples of misuse of these techniques in the life-sciences.\n\nPlease sign-up using the form below.

SUMMARY:Workshop co-creation
DESCRIPTION:Break out of traditional research thinking and design research with people\, not just for them. \nAdore recognises that many of today’s challenges in patient care cannot be solved through conventional\, top-down\, hypothesis-driven research alone. Breakthroughs require creativity\, collaboration\, and new ways of thinking and working. \nThis is where co-creation comes in. \nTo support researchers in adopting this approach\, Adore has invited Erika Hajdu to design and facilitate an interactive workshop that introduces the principles\, tools\, and mindset of co-creation\, and shows how they can be applied directly to your own research ideas and proposals. \nDuring this dynamic session\, participants will: \n\nDiscover what co-creation really means in the context of healthcare research\nLearn how to engage patients\, caregivers\, healthcare professionals\, policymakers\, and cross-disciplinary experts as active partners rather than passive participants\nExplore when and where co-creation adds the most value across the research lifecycle\nGain inspiration from concrete examples of co-creation in practice\n\nThe workshop takes the form of a hands-on co-design “hackathon”\, where you will actively explore the relevance of co-creation to your research. Through practical tools and exercises\, you will learn how to integrate co-creation methods into ongoing projects or future proposals\, strengthening relevance\, feasibility\, and real-world impact. \nJoin us to reimagine your research approach\, unlock collective intelligence\, and accelerate innovation that truly responds to patient and societal needs. \nThis workshop is open to researchers at Amsterdam UMC\, VU\, and UvA\, and to researchers who are part of the NWO-KIC LTP consortium\, who are involved in or interested in becoming involved with Adore. Researchers from outside these institutions who are interested in collaborating with Adore may contact the organiser to inquire about participation. \nThere are limited spots available\, sign-up quickly to reserve a seat.
